I don’t know why the heck this happened, but Bing started taking over my Google Chrome.
Every tab I opened opened in Bing. I had Chrome set as my default browser.
I went on ChatGPT and asked for help, and got 20 different suggestions that didn’t work. Here’s what worked for me:
How to get rid of Bing browser hijack.
What did work was to go into my settings in Apple and delete Bing as a browser. Somehow I had Bing and Chrome and a couple other browsers installed. I deleted Bing, and this problem went away.
5-minute fix.
What is Bing Browser Hijack?
“Bing browser hijack” is a common issue where unwanted software (adware, browser hijacker) forces your browser to use Bing as the search engine or homepage without permission, often through bundled software or malicious extensions, leading to redirects and ads, even if Bing itself is legitimate.
Many users experience this, reporting redirects from Google to Bing, and fixing it usually involves running antivirus scans, resetting browser settings, or removing rogue extensions.
Note:
I ran through a whole checklist including browser settings and looking for rogue extensions and applications, etc. Clearing cache and browser history. Simply deleting Bing as a browser in my settings was the fix.
I hope this helps if you have experienced the same random weird issue out of the blue.
