Today I Moved Doors

The 4 bay garage that housed my reclaimed wood art and furnishings business since 2013 is being demolished soon.  I have to move years of collected antiques and junk in the next few weeks. So instead of working out, today I moved doors.

I have about 20 doors from the 1920s, 30’s, & 40s. (I used to have 40-50, but I’ve thinned them out). Solid wood doors that weigh 20 to 40 lbs each. It’s good exercise to pick them up, carry them out of the garage, press them over head, and walk them 20 yards to the woodshed where they’ll stay for a bit.

Why are we tearing down the garage? I’m building a new 1200 square foot, 2 story house and ending my tiny house living chapter. I’ve lived in my custom built tiny house since 2017.

I’m also building a 500 square foot tiny house/ ADU for my mom.  Many of the doors I’m moving will be incorporated into the new houses, blending the old with the new.

Lately I’ve felt like it’s a wasted opportunity to lift weights when there’s physical work to be done on my 3 acre property. At the very least it’s diversity of exercise for my muscles and skeleton to chop and carry wood, move heavy objects, drag stuff, weed a garden, etc.  I’m not saying I’m eliminating weights. I love my kettlebells and my dip and pull up bars, but mixing it up is good for the body and mind.

So today I moved doors.
