Getting Sh*t Done When you Have an ADD Brain
With the help of AI
ADD people struggle with executive function and with time blindness. AI can help you with executive function. For time blindness you need to set timers on your phone and reminders to keep you on track.
Chat GBT will help you make a schedule, prioritize, and even re-shuffle if you get off track. It’s been a game changer for me.
Your job:
- Tell it what you want and what your priorities are, all you want to get done, and the time frame you have available. Include your breaks for lunch and to refresh. Estimate time to complete for each, and ask AI to help.
- Focus Blocks– Turn off notifications, close tabs, set a timer, stick to the thing for that block
- Distractions- If tempted to go elsewhere- make a quick note of the thing you want to dive into, and stay the course. Notes on your phone or computer, or other notepad app. (Paper will get lost if you’re ADD).
- What if I run long or get distracted despite my best efforts?– If something runs long or you get distracted- don’t beat yourself up! Go back to chat GBT and ask for a re-shuffle based on the current time and what’s been done.
- Also- If distracted, review your distraction- was it productive, or not? Sometimes they are.
Tips:
- I use the iphone reminders app, which also allows for scheduling items in the future, as well as making a to do list for the current day.
- A simple timer on your phone for work blocks can be a big help. It will also improve your ability to estimate time to complete tasks.
- The iphone notes app can be a great external brain dump site.
All of these things are easy to use and right there on your phone or laptop. Keep it simple. The more complex our systems are, the less likely we are to follow them as ADD people.
A gift of ADD is deep focus- we have a super power of obsessing and deep diving and rapid learning. With the help of AI you can keep your beautiful brain on track towards the goals you want to achieve.
