I’ve had this 1960’s three speed bike for decades but I’m letting it go. I haven’t ridden it since moving to the country. It’s a city bike.
It gave me great joy to cruise around Durham on it years ago– Riding to dinners out on 9th St or Downtown, to Durham Bulls games, or just to grab some groceries in a back pack.
I love old things and this groovy bike was a good friend for years. The funky and unusual backpedal to shift gears bit, the vintage styling, the rusty patina– wonderful!
I’m going to donate it to Habitat so that someone else can squeeze some joy out of it.
This bicycle was given to my mom by her former boyfriend Rocco, an eclectic guy who is a highly skilled carpenter and likes vintage things like Indian motorcyles, old trucks, and fixing up 100 year old houses.
My mom passed it on to me and I rode it around Durham for a decade, enjoying the wind in my hair! (When I still had hair). It’s sat dormant in a shed since i moved to the country in 2017.
So long Royal Scot, may you find a new person to love you well and take you out on the road again!
