foolish dreams copyright 2007 mark cool
he drove his old vw coast to coast
arrived breathless and starry-eyed
he
was sure this old tinsel town
would welcome him with arms open wide
recognize him as it's savior
a true original
the next big thing
but he wasn't prepared for a fight
or for slingin' burgers and fries
now he lives in austin
got himself a respectable job
all day he
stares at a computer
but he drives a nice new car
he tells himself he's happy here
life is good and the air is clean
and
things are so much easier when you're not chasin'...
those foolish dreams
he couldn't believe those record moguls wouldn't come to their phones
he
couldn't believe the people didn't show up in droves
when he played his fabulous shows
he left a lover in LA,
might've been the love of his life, hey
but he's never looked back since that day
he packed up his car and hit the highway
now he lives in austin...
well he left a lover in LA
might've been the love of his life.
he
left some friends who thought they knew him
but he never even said goodbye
his old 12 string gathers dust
in an attic
in his home town
he tried to play that hollywood game but he was fragile, and he fell down
now he lives in austin...
